From June of 2024 through March of 2025 I had the great gift of sitting in weekly interviews with the one and only Bill Bengston, professor of sociology, and inventor of the Bengston Energy Healing Method. He was an incredible man who spent decades of his life trying to understand why an odd trick of mental gymnastics could somehow cause mammary cancer in mice to disappear (among all the other wild and crazy things his method does).
The story of how Bill met a gifted healer and created this energy healing method is well documented in his first book, The Energy Cure. I read that book back in 2017, after hearing Bill on some podcast and thinking, "Huh. He sounds completely normal." It was a suprise given what he was talking about–many people who talk of energy healing have a far less pragmatic take on things. But despite the mindbending implications of his work, Bill sounded like a guy who loved statistics and being in the lab with cages of mice, and found nothing particularly strange about the fact that he could obliterate tumors with his mind. (I'm being a bit hyperbolic and dramatic here, but seriously? This is what he did-and what he taught skeptical biology students to do as well!) The Energy Cure confirmed that Bill was definitely just a normal guy and a nerd, but also an extraordinary individual on many levels.
Beyond Energy Healing picks up the story where the first book ends. It's about what Bill did in the last 15 years of his life to try to take his healing method to the mainstream. After what he learned from all of his work in the lab, and the resistance he encountered in trying to get people to take the data seriously and consider the implications, he was convinced that the best use of his time was to find a way to store and scale healing so it could become a conventional, boring, mainstream treatment, cheaply accessible to all of us. As a sociologist he understood a couple of things about us uprights (as he called us). We need to experience something directly often if we're going to have any shift in the way we see things. He also knew there would never be enough Bengston healers to address all the pain and suffering and need in the world. He really wanted to figure out a way get this healing stuff out there to the masses.
"A 99 cent download that can cure cancer, imagine that!"
The book doesn't end with a 99 cent download that can cure cancer, but it certainly points to some incredible discoveries that just may be steps down a path to that destination. And the recent findings at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston on the Bengston method's impact on pancreatic cancer corroborates much of what Bill demonstrated in his decades of laboratory research on this mental technique and its nonsensical ability to create real changes in the material world.
With all we know about the world we live in, there's a whole lot more to learn, it would seem. That's what I'm left with after two years of working on this story. To me, there's a ton of hope in that.
I hope you enjoy Beyond Energy Healing! Tell all your friends! ;-)
